Birthing Stories

William Frederick (Liam) Schooley

Born 10/15/2008

8 lbs. 2 oz.

Liam being our first child, Veronica and I were pretty nervous about the delivery.  All of the classes and books helped inform us but made us no less nervous.  The classes at Women’s Hospital reassured us about the care we would receive, but we still worried that “overloaded” nurses would not have enough time to make the birth the positive experience we wanted.  Having a Doula insured that we would have someone with the knowledge and the time to help.

I think Derek was more nervous than me in many respects.  Abigail helped me to know that there would be someone with a “cool head” in the delivery room.  We read the books, attended the classes, and tried to be as prepared as possible, but when my water broke, we seemed to forget the vast majority of what we were told!  It was awesome to have someone there who could gently remind us of relaxation techniques and keep us calm.  Not to mention, it was nice to have someone else there to hold my other hand when it was time to push!  Having Abigail helped make the delivery of our son an enjoyable experience!
